Description

Nature of request
Petition from the community of England enclosing the transcript of a petition presented to the last parliament at Lincoln concerning trespassers in the time of the King's father, on which a remedy was promised but for which nothing has been done. They ask that now, at Pontefract, some suitable remedy may be provided. The transcript of the petition follows, in two parts. The first asks that a remedy might be provided in the matter of trespasses committed in the time of the King's father by malefactors against whom the justices are reluctant to act, because they have no lands or possessions by which they might be brought to justice, but only by their bodies: with the result that these trespassers who have nothing to lose are going unpunished. The second asks that a remedy might be provided for the assigns of those who have estate in another's land through writ of elegit, where their possession is disturbed by writ of novel disseisin.
