Nature of request
Geoffrey de Cotes makes two requests:1) He states that the King recovered the right of presentation to the church of Fishlake against the Prior of Lewes, and presented Geoffrey to that church; and that Geoffrey was instituted and inducted on St Bartholomew's day last August, and in peaceful possession, until Peter de Vaurelly arrived with bulls from Avignon, claiming that the right of collation belonged to the pope, and is suing in various ways to disturb Geoffrey's possession and destroy the King's right, contrary to the King's prohibition in this matter. He requests a remedy.

Ascribed to 2 Edward III (25 January 1328-24 January 1329) in Rot. Parl. vol. II p.20a (no.19), and confirmed as belonging to that year by PROME, Appendix of Unedited Petitions, 1307-1337, Rotuli Parliamentorum II, pp. 13-30, no. 19. This is the earliest date consistent with the petitioner having been presented to the church of Fishlake by the King, and having been inducted the previous August.
