[c. 1331]
Description
Petitioners
Thomas de Eyvill, formerly keeper of the honour of Pontefract.
Name(s)
de Eyvill, Thomas
Addressees
King and council.
Occupation
keeper of the honour of Pontefract
Nature of request
Thomas de Eyvill, formerly Keeper of the honour of Pontefract, makes two requests:1) He states that the auditors of the lands that belonged to Queen Isabella have charged him in his account with an annual rent for the tenements which belonged to Thomas de Houk in the vill of Hook, as belonging to Pontefract castle, whereas they belong to the manor of Whitgift. He requests a writ under the great seal to the auditors to discharge him of this rent from the time when Geoffrey Lescrop took the manor of Whitgift at farm.2) He also requests a writ of the great seal to the Treasurer and Barons of the Exchequer to allow him, formerly Keeper of the manor of Cowick, 2 d. a day for the wages of Richard Dachet, keeper of the mares and foals in the King's stud there from 20 January past to the following 3 August, as Thomas paid his wages for the entire period when the stud was in the hands of Queen Isabella.
Nature of endorsement
Certain people are to be appointed to inquire if the said rent belongs to the manor of Whitgift or to the castle of Pontefract, and when the inquisition has been returned, if it is found that the rent belongs to the manor of Whitgift, then a writ is to be sent to the said auditors to discharge the said Thomas of the said rent.[This paragraph deleted] With regard to the first point: the auditors of the said account are to be ordered by writ of Chancery to inquire into whether the said rent belongs to the manor of Whitgift or to the castle of Pontefract, and if they find that the rent belongs to the manor of Whitgift, then they are to discharge the said Thomas of the said rent. With regard to the second point: the Treasurer and Barons of the Exchequer are to be ordered that, when they have seen the account rendered by the said Thomas in the Queen's time, if they find that the 2 d. were allowed to him in the Queen's time for the said stud, and that the stud afterwards came into the King's hand, then they are to allow Thomas what he reasonably paid after the stud came into the King's hand.
