Reference
SC 8/261/13007
Date
[1335-? 1340]
Description
Petitioners
Gawain de Suthorp and the moneyers of the Exchange of London.
Name(s)
de Suthorp, Gawain
Addressees
King and council.
Places mentioned
London
York.
Nature of request
Gawain de Suthorp and the moneyers of the Exchange of London state that they have complained that an ordinance made at the last parliament at York in the King's ninth year about how money should be minted was proving too costly for them. An inquisition was ordered into at what cost the master and workers could make this coin, and this inquisition has been returned in Chancery. They ask that it may be examined, and that a warrant might be sent to the Keeper of the Exchange to pay them in accordance with the findings of the inquisition.
Nature of endorsement
[None].
Note
Datable with reference to the parliament at York in the King's ninth year (1335): this petition would seem to date from shortly afterwards. Possibly datable to 1340, if it was formerly enclosed with no.13150 of C 81/267, which is dated 30 May 14 Edward III (1340).
