[This petition is badly damaged.]The petitioners state that at the suit of various people writs have been sent to them, showing how their lands, held by knight's fees, have been divided among various tenants, and asking that each tenant be charged according to his share; and that the King's ministers cannot distrain for these. They request clarification of this matter, or that they might be ordered by writ to distrain the chief tenant for the whole, if he will not help them to levy the aid from his tenants, as the person with the best knowledge of their holdings.
Nature of endorsement
This petition is to be sent to the Exchequer and the Barons of the Exchequer are to advise themselves how such an aid was levied on other occasions, and how it is levied now, and they are to inform the said collectors of their advice as to how it should now be levied, according to the case contained in the same petition.
