Nature of request
The cutlers of London make three requests:1) They ask that they might have their franchise as other guilds do, so that no other guild should interfere with them or their craft, but that they might be ruled by loyal and suitable people from their own guild, so that no aliens or others may set up as cutlers, and any who do might be punished by these people and have their false workmanship forfeited.2) They ask that any substandard workmanship by members of their guild might also be corrected by these people, and judged by people of their guild, so that their franchise is not harmed.3) They ask that they might have the same franchise in every city and borough of England.
Nature of endorsement
What is requested by this petition is to be done, . . . the Mayor, saving what concerns gold and silver, which is to be done by the goldsmiths and those of the craft mentioned here by the advice of the Mayor.
