Edmund le Cheyne, Keeper of the palace of Westminster, and Joan, his wife, state that they and their ancestors who have held this office have always had a livery of the pantry, buttery, kitchen and chandlery, as other sergeants of the household receive by the day, as they can show by all the good ways that the court will adjudge, but that this livery has now been withheld. They ask that the Steward might be ordered to let them have it back.
Nature of endorsement
The Steward is to be ordered to inform himself of all the things contained in this petition, and of the title by which he claims such a livery, and into all their circumstances; and they are further to do justice according to their discretion.
