Nature of request
Robert de Warthecopp, parson of the church of Wessington, states that he is prepared to pay the tenth granted to the King, but that his church is charged with a portion and several pensions appropriated to various religious houses in the diocese of Durham and the collectors of the tax in the diocese, out of favour to these religious, have included these in the sum to be assessed for the tenth and levied the whole amount from him. He requests a writ to the collectors that the holders of these portion and pensions might be charged with the tenth, each one according to his share, and that an allowance might be given to Robert in what they have levied beyond the proper amount.
Nature of endorsement
He is to have a writ to the Treasurer and Barons of the Exchequer to have the said religious appear before them on a certain day to show any evidence they have why they should not be charged with the tenth, each according to the pensions and portions that they receive from the said church and there, when the arguments on one side and the other [have been heard], justice and reason are further to be done to the parson.
