Nature of request
The Abbot and convent of Cirencester request confirmation of a charter of Richard I, by which they hold the manor of Cirencester and vill of Minety, with seven hundreds pertaining to the same manor, in pure and perpetual alms. They also state that by this they have always had the right of tallage there whenever the King tallaged his demesnes, until the last tallage, when they were disturbed in this, because there was no express mention of tallage in their charter, and ask that this tallage might expressly be mentioned in this charter.
Nature of endorsement
[Deleted] He is to await the coming of Walter de Norwich.Because a plea is pending in the Exchequer between the King and the Abbot concerning tallage etc., and the Abbot requests that those words concerning tallage are to be entered expressly in the King's charter of confirmation to be made anew, the King is not yet advised to grant this confirmation, before judgment has been given in the aforesaid plea. Therefore he is to wait etc.
