Date
[c. 1331]
Description
Petitioners
Abbot of Citeaux, parson of St Mary, Scarborough.
Addressees
King and council.
Occupation
Abbot of Citeaux, parson of St Mary, Scarborough
Nature of request
The Abbot of Citeaux states that in his parliament held at Westminster in the fifth year of his reign, the King sent a writ to the Treasurer and Barons of the Exchequer to search the accounts of the keepers of Scarborough in the fifth and sixth years of the King's father's reign, and if they found from this that the King had received offerings from the Abbot's chapel in Scarborough castle, belonging to his church, then they were to give the Abbot payment or assignment for this; but they have done nothing, and refuse to do anything unless the Abbot brings a writ saying that this is to be done notwithstanding the later ordinances. He therefore requests such a writ.
Nature of endorsement
They are to have a writ of sicut alias to the Treasurer and Barons of the Exchequer, and if there is a reasonable cause why they should not do this, they are to provide information on the cause in Chancery.

Note
Datable to c. 1331 with reference to the parliament of 5 Edward III (held at Westminster from 30 September-9 October 1331).CCR 1330-3 p.356 is dated 8 October 1331, and is clearly in response to this earlier petition. This petition must date from shortly afterwards.
