[This petition is unclear.]Leysant de Avenei states that he has spent 40 marks in the King's service in the late war in Glamorgan, and in defence of the castle, town and country of Kenfig, so that he is greatly impoverished, and it will be a long time before he can hold the country securely if he is not assisted. He requests the King's letters to his Chamberlain of Cardiff to pay him his expenses, and that he might be granted the forfeiture of some of his people who were with the enemy, as his ancestors have always had the forfeiture of their people when they escaped in their country without being attached.
Nature of endorsement
Coram rege.Although he is obliged to defend his lands and his goods, the King nevertheless wishes him to have 20 marks this time of the King's gift, of his special grace, in aid of his expenses contained in this petition.
