Retirement of Mr W D Maxwell and Mr A R Best, Customs Officers. Reports that both Mr Maxwell and Mr Best have reached retirement age and are entitled to receive pensions under the Pensions Act no 38 of 1890. States that the two officers will not be replaced, bringing the staff count in line with the arrangements of the Retrenchment Act no 19 of 1896. Hopes that with this staff reduction the Customs Department can carry out its duties properly and confirms he will watch the progress of events very carefully.
