1 individual petition (the prisoner) on behalf of James Quinn, convicted at the Circuit Court of Justiciary held in Glasgow in September in 1827 of passing a forged note in the house of James May Ketchnie, spirit dealer. There are character references from Lawnder McGow[?], John Walker, Robert Kay, Duncan Arnold, Alexander Wilson, JP, Claude Morrison, James Wood, David Brown, Thomas Watson and 8 people from Wilsontown and Forth [Lararkshire] and a covering letter from J Brownlie, writer. Grounds for clemency: prisoner pleaded guilty to passing a forged note which he had accepted in error and appeals for his sentence to be commuted to imprisonment in Scotland on the grounds of previous good character and in the hope of supporting his wife and six children. Initial sentence: 7 years transportation. AO10. [Scot]
