Description

1 individual petition (Janet Clarkson, the prisoner's wife) on behalf of John White, prisoner on board the Retribution at Sheerness,convicted at Glasgow in May 1827, of theft by housebreaking. Grounds for clemency: the petitioner seeks commutation of sentence to imprisonment in the hope that the prisoner will be better able to support his wife and four young children. Initial sentence: 14 years. transportation. Annotated: 'Refused Sept 18 1827'. AO6. [Scot]
