3 individual petitions (Mary Bleaklie, the prisoners' mother [x2] and James Cullen for Thomas Bleaklie's wife [name not given]) on behalf of Samuel Bleaklie and Thomas Bleaklie, convicted at the Circuit Court at Glasgow held on 5 May 1827 of uttering two forged banknotes. The prisoners were transported to Bermuda where Samuel Bleaklie died in August 1829. Grounds for clemency: both prisoners are of previous good character, both have wives and children who have no other means of support and Thomas had served in HM Army in the Royal Artillery and was discharged with an excellent character (on the provision by his father of two substitutes). Initial sentence: 7 years transportation. Annotation: 'Nil'. AO4. [Scot]
