1 individual petition (Henry Struthers) on behalf of Henry Lindsay, cotton spinner, on board the ship Retribution, convicted at the Spring Circuit Court held Glasgow in 1827, for the theft of a snuff box from Henry Struthers. Lindsay is stated to have entered the cotton mills at age 7. Grounds for clemency: the victim petitioned on the prisoner's behalf on the grounds that a previous indictment (of which the prisoner was exonerated) had left him without employment and the prisoner's transportation would leave his wife and five children destitute. Initial sentence: transportation for life. Annotated: 'Not granted'. AO1. [Scot]
