1 individual petition (the prisoner) from James Stewart, tailor, convicted at the Glasgow Assizes held in May 1827 of issuing a forged £5 banknote of The Bank of Scotland. Grounds for clemency: prisoner petitions for the commutation of his sentence to imprisonment in the penitentiary to enable him to continue his trade, support his family and teach his skills to other prisoners and should he be transported his family will be reliant on parish funds for support. Initial sentence: 7 years transportation. Annotated: 'Char [Character report] fm [from] Gaol - Good'. AN16. [Scot]
