1 individual petition (the prisoner) on behalf of John Mossman, merchant, convicted at Edinburgh on 24 March 1827 for assault against William Landers. Grounds for clemency: the petitioner had not struck the victim, but pushed him aside with his open hand, this, combined with the victim's state of intoxication caused a fall, a factor accepted by the jury in making a recommendation to clemency, and the prisoner's confinement in gaol for two months before trial. Initial sentence: three months imprisonment. Annotated: 'nil'. AM 26. [Scot]
