Report of David Boyle, Lord Justice Clerk on 1 individual petition (the prisoner, signed by G Robinson, counsel) on behalf of Alexander Gray, convicted of bigamy at the Circuit Court of Justiciary held at Aberdeen on 15 September 1826. There are 2 certificates of ill health from James Smith MD and Jos Whyte, surgeon, and James Williamson MD and Jno Whyte, surgeon. [diseases listed in full]. Grounds for clemency: age (over 60 years), confessed to the crime, the prison is 'of a very limited description', very severe winter and the rapid decline in his health raises strong doubts as to whether he would be able to serve the full term. Initial sentence: 15 months imprisonment. Recommendation: remission of the remainder of his sentence. Annotated: 'Granted'. AM 24. [Scot]
