1 collective petition (12 people, comprising the prisoner, Earl of Fife, Provost of Banff, two deputy lieutenants and 7 magistrates) on behalf of George Fraser, convicted at the Circuit Court of Justiciary held at Aberdeen on 15 September 1826 of assault against Harry Forbes in June 1826 at the 'Summereve's fair' in Keith. There is a covering letter to the petition from George Robinson, Provost and Deputy Lieutenant of Banff. Grounds for clemency: Fraser was drunk at the time of the assault, the assault was instigated by others, prisoner had no previous criminal record, has many certificates of good character and was wrongly advised to plead guilty at the trial. Initial sentence: 12 months imprisonment. Annotated: '22 March 27, Refused'. AM 21. [Scot]
