A report by David Boyle, Lord Justice Clerk on 1 individual petition (the prisoner) on behalf of Elizabeth Liddell, convicted at Glasgow on 7 July 1826 for breach of the peace and assault against Grizel Dunn on 6 July 1826. There is a detailed account of the crime within the petition. There is a covering letter to the petition from Peter Miller. Grounds for clemency: the defendant was given less than one day's notice of the prosecution and the court, using newly available summary powers, refused to grant her an extension, an appeal to a higher court was rejected on the grounds that no written record of the summary court's proceedings were available. Initial sentence: fine of 2 guineas or 21 days hard labour and bound over to keep the peace for 12 months against a recognisance of 5 pounds. Annotated: 'I decline to interfere in the case'. AM 11. [Scot]
