Description

1 individual petition (the prisoner) from John Watson, weaver, convicted in Glasgow [in April?] 1826 for attempted rape. There are character references from William Brebner superintendent, 'County and City, Bridewell' (the statement ratified by the Earl of Douglas); and Mall. Gardiner, parish priest of Bothwell, Lanarkshire. Grounds for clemency: previous exemplary character, received recommendation of mercy from the trial judge and the injurious effect of prison confinement on the convict's health. Annotated: 'Refused, Dec 11 1806'. AM 9. [Scot]
