2 individual petitions (the prisoner [x2]) and 1 collective petition (the Provost of Pollockshaw, Renfrew [Pollockshaws, Renfrewshire], and three elders of the prisoner's Presbyterian church) on behalf of James Clark, weaver, convicted at Pollockshaw, in 1826 for assault against Margaret Wilkie, the prisoner's mother in law. There is an unsigned covering letter and a covering letter from H James. Grounds for clemency: both the prisoner and the victim were drunk at the time of the assault, the sentence leaves wife and five children destitute, they are a charge on the parish, the prisoner's health has deteriorated in prison and the prisoner undertakes to find a security for good behaviour if released early. Initial sentence: 12 months imprisonment. Annotation: refused. AM 5. [Scot]
