Report of John Heath on 1 individual petition (Thomas Godfrey, High Sheriff of Kent) on behalf of Benjamin Spratt, convicted at 'the last' Kent Assizes at Maidstone, for the theft of 3 cows, property of David Collard. The prisoner sold the cows for £24. Grounds for clemency: youth (19); first offence, the son of poor but industrious persons, first offence, and he was known to the petitioner. Initial sentence: death, respited to transportation for life. Recommendation: 12 months imprisonment in the house of correction. Folios 90-93.
