Russian Empire: Crimea (now part of Ukraine). 11 sheets of sketches; many of the locations depicted have not been precisely identified but are probably mainly in the environs of Balaklava and Sebastopol (Sevastopol'). (9-10) Two sheets, each bearing two pencilled sketches showing hills, huts, roads, vegetation, etc; (11) Copy of item (9), on tracing paper. (12) Copy of item (10), on tracing paper. (13) Section through Balaklava the harbour. (14) Section through a valley. (15) Section of the land between the British military headquarters and Kamara. (16) Section through Inkerman, etc. (17) Section through Balaklava, Feodosiya, etc. (18) Section through San Georgio and Cathcart Hill. (19) Sheet bearing three sections of parts of the coast. [?All items by] Lieutenant [Charles George] Gordon, Royal Engineers. All items endorsed: 'Crimea sketches'.
