France: Toulon. Plan of the fortifications and harbour. Scale: 1 inch to about 40 toises. Endorsed in pencil: 'This plan shows only the works thrown up by Henry IV. A new basin was made & the fortifications enlarged by Louis XIV'. Henri IV reigned from 1589-1610; this plan probably dates from the latter part of his reign. The endorsement, which is in a 'modern' hand, may date from considerably later than the reign of Louis XIV (1643-1715).
