(5-7) Waterloo (now in Belgium). Three sketch maps showing the disposition and movements of troops during the Battle of Waterloo, [18 June 1815]: (5) 'Attack on Hougomont repulsed by M. General Byngs Brigade of Guards ...'; (6) 'Attack on la Haye Sainte... attack on Hougomont continued'; (7) 'Last great attack by the French Imperial guards and reserves, the Prussian army advancing upon the flank of the enemy'. Scale: 3 inches to 1 mile. Dimensions: (5-6) each 24 cm x 35 cm; (7) 24 cm x 37 cm.
(4) Reference table and notes to items (5-7), detailing the units and commanders of the Allied army at the battle.
(2-3) Letter from [?Lieutenant Colonel] T Wright, [?Royal Staff Corps] Cheltenham, to Colonel [James] Freeth, Assistant Quarter Master General, 11 May 1850; originally enclosing items (4-7). Wright [probably the Lieutenant Colonel Wright who had been awarded the Waterloo Medal] explains that the official maps of the battle, had been 'mislaid' and that he encloses maps that he has produced himself.
