'Map illustrative of the operation of the British Army and Navy in China in the years 1840-1 and 2': covering the area between the Korean peninsula in the north-east and the Gulf of Tongking in the south-west, showing provinces, cities and major towns, and chief rivers. Scale: 1 inch to about 40 miles. Compiled and drawn by E J Hebert, Quarter Master General's Department, Horse Guards. Twelve insets: maps showing fortifications and military operations at and around: (i) in Jiangsu province: Nanjing, Zhenjiang, and (on one map together) Baoshan, Wasou and Shanghai; (ii) in Zhejiang province; Ningbo, Zhapu, Zhenhai and Zhoushan; (iii) in Fujian province: Amoy (Xiamen); (iv) in Guangdong province: Canton (Guangzhou; two maps), the 'Bocca Tigris', with Chuanbi and neighbouring portions of the Pearl River (Zhu Jiang) estuary, and the area between Canton, Macau and Hong Kong.
