China: Guangdong province. (27-30) 'A Skeleton Map of Country round Canton embracing all the Places visited by the Allied Forces': on four sheets, together covering the area between Wuzhou, Canton (Guangzhou), Macau and Hong Kong; showing rivers and place names. Title on item (29). Scale: 1 inch to 2 miles. Compass indicator to each sheet. Based partly on Admiralty Charts and partly on surveys by Major Fisher, Lieutenant Trench and Lieutenant Bird, all of the Royal Engineers, and Lieutenant Bullock, Royal Navy. Item (29) signed by Lieutenant E H Courtney, Royal Engineers, 23 August 1859, and by Colonel George Wynne, Commanding Royal Engineer, 3 November 1859; both dates have been struck through. Item (30) also signed by Lieutenant Courtney, but not dated. (26) A brief note, dated November-December 1859, detailing the forwarding of the map to Major Cooke and its return [?to Colonel Gordon], with a request by Major Cooke for a further loan of the map.
