Central and Eastern Europe. 'To His Most Serene and August Majesty Peter Alexovitz, Absolute Lord of Russia & c. This Map of Moscovy [sic, Muscovy], Poland, Little Tartary And ye Black Sea & c. is most Humbly Dedicated by H. Moll, Geographer': covering the area between Innsbruck (now in Austria) in the west, Tobol'sk (now in the Russian Federation) in the north-east, and Trebizond (now Trabzon, Turkey) in the south-east. Reference note on sources. Title in an ornate cartouche, with a coat of arms, portrait [of Tsar Peter I ('the Great')], and human and celestial figures. Scale: 1 inch to about 50 miles (scale bars also in Russian versts and German and Polish leagues). Printed for [Herman] Moll, and for [John] Bowles, [Thomas] Bowles, [Philip] Overton, and [John] King. Insets: (i) Continuation northward to Murmansk; scale: 1 inch to about 160 miles. (ii) Continuation of the River Volga south-east to the Caspian Sea; scale: 1 inch to about 25 miles; compass indicator. (iii) Map of the environs of Azov; scale: 5 inches to about 8 miles.
Peter the Great ruled as Tsar from 1696 until his death in 1725; presumably the map was originally produced during that time.
