This Map of South America, According to the Newest and most Exact Observations is most Humbly dedicated by your Lordship's most Humble Servant Herman Moll Geographer': also shows part of the coast of west Africa and real and non-existent Atlantic and South Sea (i.e. Pacific) islands. Reference note referring to the inaccuracy of rival mapmakers' work. Title in a decorative cartouche with a coat of arms and figures intended to represent native peoples. Compass indicator. Lord Spencer succeeded to the title of Earl of Sunderland in 1702 and died in 1722; presumably the map was originally produced during that time.
