Canada West (now Ontario, Canada). Two sketch maps of land along the Rideau Canal, showing: (40) lots laid out by Colonel By in Nepean and Gloucester [both near Bytown (now Ottawa)]; (41) purchased, leased and retained lots of land, and locks. Reference note to item (41). Scale: (40) 1 inch to 5 chains [1:3,960]; (41) 1 inch to 880 yards [2 inches to 1 mile or 1:31,680]. Compass indicator to both items. Both items signed by Major Captain Francis Ringler Thomson, Royal Engineers, January 1846; and Lieutenant George Bent, Acting Adjutant, Royal Engineers, 13 May 1846. Dimensions: (40) 29 cm x 202 cm; (41) 46 cm x 278 cm. Originally accompanied a report to the Inspector General of Fortifications, 13 May 1846.
