Nature of request
Alexander de la Werthe states that John de Excestre, formerly Treasurer of Exeter cathedral, purchased certain tenements in the vill of Downton near Christchurch in Hampshire for himself and his heirs forever, so that after his death it descended to his sister, Emma de la Werthe, Alexander's mother, who sued to the King's grandfather until she had a commission of inquiry to John de Foxlegh. But, because it was found that the tenements were at some time seized into the hand of Isabella de Fortz because they were held of the manor of Christchurch, and because Isabella died in the meantime, the King entered into the tenements. Emma died before the inquisition was returned, and Alexander has sued all the time of the King's father and has never had a response to his bill. He asks that justice might be done to him and that he might have another writ of inquiry so that he is not disinherited.
Nature of endorsement
The inquisition is to be examined in Chancery, and when the Chancellor has taken such counsel as he wishes, he will ordain that justice is to be done.
