Nature of request
Letter to the King and council from the Burgomasters, Echevins and council of Bruges, complaining that two ships, the St Mary of Bilbao and the St Nicholas of Ondarroa, were loaded with grain at Het Zwin by four Catalan merchants to be taken to Cataluna, and that they were captured last August in the Bay by King Edward's subjects, part of a fleet coming from Brittany, and taken to Bristol. As this capture is alleged to have taken place after the truce had been made, and as the merchants are subjects of the King of Aragon and well-disposed towards the English, they ask that amends might be made to the merchants.
