Nature of request
[This petition is damaged.]The petitioners state that they have been accustomed to receive a certain sum in alms in four annual portions at the Exchequer of Ely, of the gift of the Bishops of Ely and confirmed by kings, but that the King has recently granted the Prior and convent of Ely the temporalities of the bishopric during vacancies and, when they came to collect their money at the first quarter-day after the death of the late Bishop, the Prior and convent refused to pay them, saying that they were not to be charged with anything beyond the fixed sum they paid the King for the temporalities. [They request a remedy].
Nature of endorsement
They are to have a writ to the Prior and convent founded on the King's charter and the certification of the Exchequer that it is Chancery that is to pay the Master and brothers what is due to them from the time when they had the vacancy; and they are further to sue the process by sicut alias and attachment.
