Nature of request
The people of Holderness complain about Hugh Lormer, their coroner, a layman without knowledge of Latin or French and totally unsuited for the post, where he has return of writs and a sheriff's tourn, and who has obtained it through bribery. He has made many malicious indictments to obtain the lands and goods of loyal people and allowed malefactors to go unpunished through favour, so that the poor people of Holderness can have no justice while he occupies this bailiwick. They state that there are plenty of learned and suitable people who could fill this office, and ask for an inquiry and a remedy.
