Nature of request
John Sefoul and Eleanor his wife state that Eleanor was previously married to Giles, son of Giles le Monpinsoun, who was seised of certain tenements in the manors of Ingoldisthorpe and Ryburgh in Norfolk in his demesne as in fee and right on the day that he married her, and that he died seised of them, so that dower from them belonged to his widow. But the lands came into the hand of Robert Walkefare, and are now in the King's hand through his rebellion. They request an inquiry into this, and that Eleanor might have her dower.
Nature of endorsement
Faithful people are to be appointed in Chancery to inquire, in the presence etc., into the truth of if Giles the husband etc. was seised of the tenements contained in the petition in such a way as to be able to dower her from them after he married her, and if the aforesaid Giles is dead, and when and how etc., and if his aforesaid widow changed her status concerning her dower at the time of her husband's death etc., and into other articles etc. And the inquisition is to be returned in Chancery so that the King might be informed on this. Simon de Hedersete and John Claver assigned.
