Date
[? c. 1303]
Description
Petitioners
Master of the Temple (Knights Templars).
Addressees
King and council.
Occupation
Master of the Temple (Knights Templars)
Nature of request
The Master of the Temple states that he holds lands of the King's ancient demesnes of the gift of the King's ancestors, and that within these demesnes there are tenants who hold of him by the same services by which they held of the King, and will not perform any other service. The Master requests a writ to tallage these tenants, as the King has tallaged his ancient demesnes, and such a writ was granted for all those who held the ancient demesnes in the time of King Henry.
Nature of endorsement
[On face] He is to sue a writ.[None on dorse]
People mentioned
Henry [III], King of England.
Note
The mention of King Henry would seem to date this petition to the reign of Edward I, and thus possibly to the tallage of 1303.
