Description

King and council.
Nature of request
The Abbot and convent of Baltinglas state that in the reign of King John their lands at Wathmelan, Athlerduan and Rathmanath were seized into the King's hand because some of the lay-brothers who were wardens of these lands were receiving thieves and felons there. They have sued to the King and his council for grace, and the justice of Ireland has often been ordered to do what is just and reasonable for them, but has done nothing. They ask for a writ to the justice to inquire fully into the truth of this matter, and to return the inquisition to the King, so that he can give them grace if it please him.
