Nature of request
Adam Drynker, one of the King's tenants of his manor of Liskeard, states that he is free and of free condition, and that all his ancestors were born outside the King's lordship in the parish of Duloe and the vill of Lantonan, but that his father took some land in Liskeard which is held in bondage for a certain rent, and that after his death Adam was forced by the Prince's ministers to hold the land in bondage as a villein, contrary to his wishes. The manor has now descended to the King, But Adam is still forced to hold as a villain. He asks that the Steward of Cornwall or some other suitable person might be appointed to inquire into this matter and to provide information on it in Chancery, so that if he is found to be of free condition he might be discharged of the villain service.
