Nature of request
The Prior and brothers of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem in England state that Pope Clement has ordained that all the possessions of the Master and brothers of the Order of the Temple would remain to their order in aid of the Holy Land, and that he sent a bull to the King on this subject. The King then ordered his sheriffs to put the petitioners in possession of these lands and tenements; but certain lords, disobedient to the orders of the Pope and King, expelled them from a great part of these lands, and held them until they were forfeited, when many of these lands came into the King's hand. They ask that these lands might be given to them, and request the King's aid in recovering those of such lands as are in the hands of others.
