Description

Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
William de la Leye and Alice his wife states that the King granted them certain lands in Clopton near Ipswich in Suffolk, which Margaret, Countess of Cornwall, held in dower, for term of life, paying the valuation annually at the Exchequer, and that they were seised of these for a year and more, and spent a lot of money on them. But at Easter two years ago Thomas le Latymer, by a commission of the Exchequer, without livery of the escheator, or of the sheriff or of any other minister of the King, seized these lands, and he still holds them. They request a remedy.
Nature of endorsement
The Treasurer and Barons of the Exchequer are to be ordered that, when they have summoned Thomas le Latimer before them and heard the arguments of the parties, if they find that the tenements contained in the petition were first given to William and Alice by writ of the great seal, before they were delivered to Thomas by commission of the Exchequer, they are further to do full and swift justice to the said William and Alice in the aforesaid.
