Reference
SC 8/258/12854
Date
[? c. 1316]
Description
Petitioners
Executors of Christina de Marish.
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
[This petition is hard to read.]The executors of Christina de Marish state that the King ordered Walter de Norwicz, then lieutenant of the Treasurer of England, by a writ under the targe to buy from the executors for the King's use all the stock and goods and chattels in the manors of Langley Marish and Wraysbury which she held for term of life and which the executors should have held for three years more by the King's grant in exchange for lands in Ireland, and that John de Mawardyn valued the corn in the granges at £221 16s 6d. Two years passed and then the King delivered these to Ingelard de Warley, then Treasurer of his Wardrobe and commanded him to pay the executors, [which was not done]. They ask the King to order swift payment for them, so that they might perform the will of the deceased.
Nature of endorsement
The Treasurer and Barons of the Exchequer are to be ordered by writ of Chancery that, when they have called Ingelard de Warley and the executors of the said Christina and heard their arguments, they are to do justice to the executors according to the lord King's command.
Places mentioned
Langley Marish, [Buckinghamshire]
Wraysbury, [Buckinghamshire]
Overstone, [Northamptonshire]
Ireland.
People mentioned
Christina de Mareys (Marish)
Walter de Norwicz (Norwich), lieutenant of the Treasurer of England
John de Mawardyn
Ingelard de Warley.
Note
CPR 1313-17 p.564 is dated 16 November (sic) 1316. Tentatively dated to c. 1316 with reference to this and to SC 8/161/8046, which is a copy of two writs, dated 8 February 9 Edw. II (1316) and 30 March 17 Edw. II (1324), ordering the Treasurer and Barons of the Exchequer to make satisfaction to the executors for movables taken for the King's use. This petition would seem most likely to date from around the time of the first of these writs.
