Description
Petitioners
William de Wyndesore (Windsor).
Name(s)
de Wyndesore (Windsor), William
Addressees
Council.
Nature of request
William de Wyndesore makes eight requests;1) He states that because of the rebellions in Ireland the justices do not dare to make due execution of the laws, and requests a good and sufficient justice from England for the chief court in Ireland, as has been done before.2) He states that no-one wishes to travel to England to the King and council on the business of Ireland without payment of his expenses, and asks the King to ordain for the better spending of the issues and revenues of Ireland for the profit of the King and of Ireland.3) He states that certain members of the King's council in Ireland are not suitable for their post, and asks that a better council might be ordained.4) He asks that a good and sufficient clerk might be appointed to the Chancery of Ireland, as the clerks there at present are ignorant.5) He asks for the appointment of a third person, other than the Chancellor and Treasurer, before whom to make the muster of his retinue.6) He states that before he last went to Ireland he had a general acquittance for all manner of actions and demands. He requests another similar acquittance.7) He requests letters patent and writs to levy the subsidy that is in arrears to pay the fees and wages of his men, as was agreed between William and the council.8) He requests power to grant prebends and benefices with cure of souls and to give lands wasted by the enemies and rebels, and to remove unprofitable officers, as he had when he last went there.
Nature of endorsement
[On face, to first] The advice of the said William on this is to be sought.[To second] They are to be spent on the advice and ordinance of the King's officers and others of his council in those parts who are and will be without deceit.[To third] He is to explain which are not sufficient and why.[To fourth] The King will send to his Chancery there that he will provide such clerks as are suitable for the office.[To fifth] Such a person or people to be appointed to this will be ordained by commission.[To sixth] No reason for doing so can be seen. If there is any reasonable cause, he is to specify it.[To seventh] He will have such as are necessary and as are agreed by the council.[To eighth] His power was previously agreed and put in patents. The council is not advised to increase or reduce this power.[None on dorse]
