Description
Petitioners
Alice Coterell, widow of Richard Coterell.
Name(s)
Coterell, Alice
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Alice, widow of Richard Coterell, states that she claimed certain tenements in Balrothery and Ballyfermot against Nicholas, son of Roger Gernon, before Thomas de Dent and his companions, then justices of the Common Bench in Dublin, returnable at the quindene of Michaelmas in the King's thirtieth year. The King sent a writ from England saying that Nicholas had nothing in these tenements except for term of life, of the King's grant, with the reversion to the King and his heirs, and telling the justices not to proceed in the plea without consulting him. She requests a writ to Robert de Preston and his companions, now justices of the Common Bench, to proceed in the plea, notwithstanding this writ or any other command to the justices of Ireland not to hold pleas concerning lands and tenements seized into the King's hand without a special command from England, and to continue to a final judgment as the law demands.

They are to have a writ to proceed, notwithstanding any writ or other command previously issued, provided that they do not proceed to judgment without consulting the King.
