Nature of request
The citizens of York state that they were granted the tolls and customs in their city, in aid of their farm, by charter of the King's progenitors, and that the people of Kingston upon Hull and Ravenser Odd used to pay these tolls, but now claim to be exempt by reason of more recent franchises granted to their towns. So the tolls and customs are now £60 and more short of the sum needed for the farm each year, and the citizens of York have to pay this sum by dividing it up amongst themselves, to their great impoverishment. They ask the King and council to make some ordinance for their relief.
Nature of endorsement
Coram rege.They are to distrain for these tolls and customs, and if the distraints are replevied, they are to be sent to court where they can have justice.
