[This petition is badly damaged.]William, Bishop of Worcester states that Godfrey, his predecessor, surrendered certain lands into the King's hand, and the King granted them back to him again as of the right of his bishopric: for which grant William has a charter. But after his death these tenements were seized into the King's hand with his other lands, and [passed to] John Giffard, Godfrey's heir. William asks that the council might examine [his charter], and that justice might be done to him.
Nature of endorsement
A writ is to be sent to the King's Escheator, that he is to take back into the King's hand the tenements contained in the petition, of which the Bishop died seised. And the person who claims to have a right in them is to sue before the King.
