Description

Name(s)
de Verdon, Thomas
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Thomas de Verdon states that he entered into an agreement with William de Gray of Great Cornard, on the advice of Thomas de Weylond, whose sister William had married, that he would enfeoff William with all his lands, rents and homages in Kent, and would marry William's daughter Agnes in the King's eighth year, after which William would re-enfeoff Thomas and Agnes with the lands. But when he had the lands, William would not fulfil his part of the agreement; and so Thomas has been cheated by William and Thomas, and kept out of his lands for ten years. He has no written record of his agreement, and therefore asks the King and council for a remedy, so that this deception might be punished and he might have recovery of his lands. And he asks that the truth of this might be inquired into by people of the county of Kent.
