Description
Petitioners
Children of William de Parles.
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
The children of William de Parles state that their father was arrested on a false accusation of killing Philip Fitz Robert, and that, as they have heard, Ellis de Hauvyle was procured by their enemies as justice in the case. Eustace their brother therefore approached the King's court to ask that judgment might not be given too hastily, before the country could be properly informed on the matter. He obtained a writ of de odio et athia and a writ to Ellis to have the findings of the inquisition returned to the King's court; but Ellis, in contempt of the King, had Eustace imprisoned until he had done his will with regard to the father. The children ask that, as those who killed Philip Fitz Robert have now been arrested and confessed, they might not be disinherited by this falsehood, and that they might put those who plotted this to answer in the King's council.
