Description
Petitioners
Prior of St Andrew's, Northampton.
Addressees
King and council.
Occupation
Prior of St Andrew's, Northampton
Nature of request
The Prior of St Andrew's, Northampton states that Henry III recovered, by judgment on a default in court against Gey, then Prior, the advowson of the church of St Peter, Northampton, with its chapels of Upton and Kingsthorpe, from which church the Prior had an annual pension of 10 marks in right of his office; and King Henry, wishing to have a certain estate in the church, took a release and quitclaim from the Prior and his successors, in exchange for an annual pension of 5 marks from the church, for which he promised the confirmation of the Bishop and of the chapter of Lincoln: so that they would have 15 marks in total, as can be seen from King Henry's charter, a transcript of which is copied below the petition. They have never received these 5 marks, nor have they had confirmation from the Bishop and chapter. He asks the King to have regard to his ancestor's charter, and to grant that justice and reason might be done to him, so that his office is not disinherited of the advowson without having the pension.

This is not a petition of parliament.
